Pull-Out Kitchen Taps

The best thing about a pull-out tap is that you stop bringing the job to the water. The head lifts out of the spout on a hose and goes wherever it is needed, into the corners of the bowl, over a roasting tin that will not sit flat, into a bucket standing on the floor.

Why the reach matters

A fixed spout puts water in one place and asks everything else to arrange itself around that. Most of what makes washing up tedious comes from that single constraint: the baking sheet held at an angle, the stockpot filled in stages, the sink itself rinsed with a cupped hand. Pull the head out and the constraint disappears.

The mechanism is worth understanding, because it separates good taps from cheap ones. Spray, stream and shape

Are pull-out kitchen taps worth it?

If you wash big things, fill buckets or rinse the sink down after cooking, they change the job entirely. Instead of manoeuvring an awkward pan under a fixed spout, you bring the water to the pan. Households that fit one tend to describe it as the feature they would least want to give up.

What is the difference between a pull-out and a pull-down tap?

Mostly the shape of the spout and how far the head travels. A pull-out draws forward and out on a hose, which suits a lower spout and gives a longer reach across a double bowl. A pull-down sits on a tall gooseneck and comes straight down into the bowl. Both use the same retracting mechanism.

Do I need a pull-out tap if I have a dishwasher?
