Abode Kitchen Sinks

Abode Kitchen Sinks

Abode make sinks in all three of the materials that matter, and make them well enough to put a ten-year guarantee behind much of the range. That combination is rarer than it should be.

Steel, composite and ceramic

Most brands are good at one material and adequate at the others. This range is unusually even. Stainless steel is the largest part and the safest choice, taking heat and knocks and asking for nothing. Composite granite is next, moulded rather than pressed, warmer to the touch and much quieter under a running tap, in whites, greys and blacks. And there is a proper ceramic selection, glazed fireclay including Belfast and Provincial shapes in both single and double bowls.

Being able to change your mind about the material without changing manufacturer is worth more than it sounds when you are two months into a kitchen project.

The Synchronist, and bowl layouts

Alongside the usual single, one and a half and double arrangements, the Synchronist range carries the one and a quarter bowl layout that is close to an Abode signature. The idea is a main bowl kept at nearly full width, with a shallow recess beside it for a colander or a rinsed mug rather than a second washing station. It suits a run of worktop that cannot spare the width a full half bowl would take.

Terence C. described the appeal of the slimmer bowls: "Good quality slim-line sink. Looks very neat in my kitchen. Very pleased with it."

Fitting, and the guarantee behind it

A good number of these sinks accept either undermount or inset fitting, so the mounting decision can wait for the worktop. Undermounting needs a solid surface that can be polished and sealed at the cut edge; laminate wants an inset sink whose rim covers it.

The ten-year guarantee on much of the range is the thing worth weighing against cheaper alternatives. Not every model carries the maximum, so check the product page, but the pattern is generous.

An Abode tap is the natural companion, with finishes designed to sit alongside these bowls, and the rest of what Abode make sits in one place. If you are comparing across makers, the full kitchen sinks range does that by material, bowl count and mounting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Abode sinks worth buying?

The ten-year manufacturer guarantee on much of the range is the short answer. A maker willing to stand behind a sink for a decade is telling you what they expect the material and the finish to survive, and it is a more useful signal than any description. The build backs it up in the hand.

What materials do Abode sinks come in?

Stainless steel forms the largest part of the range, composite granite comes next in whites, greys and blacks, and there is a genuine ceramic selection including Belfast shapes. Covering all three materials properly is unusual, and it means you can stay with one manufacturer whichever look you settle on.

What is the Abode Synchronist range?

The range where the one and a quarter bowl layout lives. A main bowl at close to full width with a shallow recess beside it for draining, moulded in composite granite. It suits a run of worktop that cannot spare the width a full half bowl needs but still wants somewhere to set a colander down.

Can Abode sinks be undermounted?

Many can, and a good number are made to accept either undermount or inset fitting, which lets the decision wait until the worktop is chosen. Undermounting needs a solid worktop such as granite, quartz or timber. On laminate an inset sink is the right answer, since its rim protects the cut edge.

Do Abode make ceramic Belfast sinks?

They do, including Belfast and Provincial shapes in fireclay ceramic, in both single and double bowl versions. There is also a composite granite Belfast in the range for anyone who wants the farmhouse silhouette in a matte modern surface rather than a glaze.

Which Abode sink suits a small kitchen?

A compact single bowl or the one and a quarter layout, depending on what you are willing to trade. A single bowl gives the whole opening to one space; the one and a quarter borrows a little of it for a draining recess. Both take less worktop than a full one and a half arrangement.
