Steel, and why that is the right call

These are almost all stainless steel, with one composite granite bowl among them. Steel is the material a sink defaults to for good reasons: it takes the boiling kettle and the roasting tin without flinching, nothing stains it or soaks into it, and there is no glaze to chip or seal to keep up.

It is also light enough that the base unit underneath does not have to be built specially to carry it, which keeps fitting simple in a way ceramic never can.

Fitting, and the reversible designs

The range covers inset bowls that drop in from above and undermount bowls that hang beneath a solid worktop for an uninterrupted sweep from surface to bowl. Undermounting needs granite, quartz, timber or another solid surface; on laminate the inset rim is what protects the cut edge.

Several are reversible, meaning the drainer side is decided at fitting rather than at checkout. That is more useful than it sounds when the run of worktop is already fixed, and it removes an easy and annoying ordering mistake.

Bowl layouts run from single through one and a half to full double, so staying with one maker does not narrow the layout decision.

The single composite granite bowl is worth a look if colour matters to you. Composite is moulded rather than pressed, warmer to the touch than metal and noticeably quieter under a running tap, because the wall is thicker and denser than steel and absorbs the sound rather than resonating with it.

Registering the warranty

The lifetime cover is conditional, and the condition is registration with the manufacturer. It is the step most people skip and the one that decides whether you actually hold that cover in ten years. Do it at the point of fitting, while the documentation is still with the sink.
