Steel, mostly, and quieter than most

The bulk of this range is stainless steel, with a smaller group in composite granite for anyone who wants colour rather than metal. Steel is the sensible default for a sink, taking boiling water and hot pans without flinching and asking for nothing beyond a wipe.

What distinguishes these from a basic pressed bowl is what has been done to the underside. Sound-deadening pads and an anti-condensation coating add mass and damping behind the steel, which turns the tinny ring of a running tap into a duller, lower note. It is a detail you appreciate by not noticing it, and it is the difference between a sink that feels cheap and one that does not.

The K700 bowls, and why the mounting flexibility matters

The K700 series is the range that comes up most: squared internal corners, a flat base, and bowls built to be fitted either undermount beneath a solid worktop or inset from above.

That dual fitting is more useful than it sounds. If your worktop is not yet chosen, or you would rather your fitter made the call on site, a sink that accepts both keeps the option open. Sandy C., who fitted one, made the case for the larger bowls: "It is big enough to fit oven racks and large trays in, as well as having a side drainer for that cup of tea that needs to be poured away just after you've filled the sink with hot bubble water."

Several are reversible sink and drainer units, meaning the drainer can be handed to whichever side your worktop allows at the point of fitting rather than being fixed when you order.
