Fireclay, glazed hard, and heavy enough that the cabinetry has to be built for it. These are farmhouse sinks in the proper sense, with the broad glazed face left on show as part of the finished kitchen rather than hidden under a worktop.

What the material gives you

Fireclay is clay fired at high temperature and finished with a thick glaze, and both halves of that process show up daily. The firing gives density, which is why a ceramic bowl is so much quieter under a running tap than pressed steel. The glaze gives a surface hard enough to shrug off staining and hold its white for decades.

The guarantees say the rest. Several of these carry twenty-five years from the manufacturer and a couple carry lifetime cover subject to registration, which are among the longest terms on any sink we stock.

Belfast, butler, single and double

Both names turn up across the range and today they mean much the same thing, though the traditional distinction was depth and an overflow. Some of these state an overflow explicitly, so the product page settles it better than the name does.

Single bowls are the more traditional shape, one deep rectangle that takes a baking tray flat. Double bowl versions are made in the same fireclay for anyone who wants two washing stations without losing the look.

All of them are sit-on sinks, resting on their own base unit, so this is a decision for the design stage of a kitchen rather than a swap.
