Abode Kitchen Taps

Abode Kitchen Taps

Abode taps do the thing good design should do, which is look considered without asking for attention. The Hex range is the clearest example: a hexagonal section running through the body and lever, noticeable once you see it and quiet enough that you might not.

What you get for the money

Brass bodies on the ranges where it counts, and manufacturer guarantees running to five years. Both matter for the same reason. Brass has the mass that makes a lever feel right and holds a bonded finish properly, and a five-year guarantee is a manufacturer's own estimate of how long the cartridge inside that lever will keep working smoothly.

Charlotte M., who fitted a Hex, put it simply: "Absolutely love our new tap! Really high quality, finished to perfection. Works beautifully. Excellent delivery and installation instructions too."

Shapes and functions

Most of the range is single-lever monobloc mixers, which is what the majority of kitchens want: one handle, one hole, everything covered. Spout profiles run from compact to full gooseneck, so there is a shape for a shallow bowl under a window and one for a deep single bowl that has to take a stockpot.

Pull-out models are well represented, with the spray head lifting out on a hose and docking back cleanly, and there are dedicated pull-out spray designs where that head is the centrepiece rather than an addition. At the other end, Abode make boiling water taps too, so the kettle can go without changing manufacturer.

Finishes, and matching the sink

Chrome is the most widely stocked and the easiest to live with. Black suits a composite sink and a modern kitchen, steel tones hide fingerprints better than anything, and warmer brass finishes sit in the gold range.

Because Abode make sinks as well, matching across the worktop is straightforward here in a way it is not with a tap-only manufacturer. Their kitchen sinks are designed with the same finishes in mind.

Whatever you choose, confirm the minimum pressure rating first. If your house runs on a gravity-fed tank, low pressure taps is where to start, and the full kitchen taps range compares Abode against everything else.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Abode taps well made?

The bodies are brass rather than lighter alloy on the ranges where it matters, and the guarantees run to five years, which is a manufacturer telling you what they expect the cartridge and finish to survive. Buyers tend to comment on the quality of the finish first and the smoothness of the lever second.

What is the Abode Hex tap?

A range built around a hexagonal section on the body and the lever rather than the usual round or square profile. The effect is subtle rather than showy, and it gives a modern kitchen a point of interest without anything as loud as an unusual colour. It has become one of the more recognisable Abode shapes.

Do Abode taps have pull-out sprays?

Several do, and there are dedicated pull-out spray models in the range as well. The head lifts out of the spout on a hose and retracts back into place, usually with a button switching between a normal stream and an aerated spray for rinsing. It is the single most useful feature you can add to a sink.

What finishes do Abode taps come in?

Chrome is the most widely available and the most forgiving to live with. Matt black, brushed steel tones and warmer brass finishes appear across the range depending on the model, so a tap can be matched to a composite sink or deliberately contrasted with a steel one.

Do Abode make boiling water taps?

They do, alongside their conventional mixers, so it is possible to stay with one manufacturer whether you want a straightforward tap or a system that replaces the kettle. As with any boiling tap, it needs a tank under the sink, which is the practical thing to measure for first.

Will an Abode tap suit my water pressure?

Check the figure before anything else. Every tap states a minimum operating pressure on its product page, and it is the specification that cannot be worked around later. A combi boiler or unvented cylinder drives almost anything; a gravity-fed tank in the loft needs a tap rated for low pressure.
