Boiling Water Kitchen Taps

Boiling water the instant you ask for it, and the kettle gone from the worktop for good. It is the single biggest change you can make to how a kitchen feels to use, and the people who fit one almost never go back.

What you are actually buying

A tank under the sink holds water at temperature, and the tap draws from it on demand. That is the whole mechanism, and it is why the water that arrives is genuinely boiling rather than merely hot enough. The tank reheats quietly in the background between uses, so unless you are filling a stockpot you rarely catch it out.

The counterweight is honest and worth stating: this is a system rather than a tap, the outlay is larger, and the tank needs a cupboard to live in alongside your waste trap. That is why a boiling tap suits a kitchen being fitted or refitted rather more than it suits a straight like-for-like swap.

Safety is designed in rather than bolted on. Every tap here uses a deliberate two-stage action, a push and turn or a locking button, so boiling water cannot come out because someone knocked a lever. Adrienne G., who fitted a Triflow, put it plainly: "The boiling water feature has replaced our kettle completely, which I didn't think I'd get used to so quickly. The water comes out instantly hot, and the safety lock works well so I'm not worried with the kids around."

Three functions, four, or more

The simplest arrangement gives you hot, cold and boiling from one fitting. Add filtered cold water and you have a 4-in-1, which is where most of this range sits, because a tap that heats water is already filtering it and the extra outlet costs little. From there, some systems add chilled water and some add sparkling, so the same spout covers everything from a cup of tea to a glass of something cold and fizzy.

If filtration is the part you actually care about, filter taps cover that job without the tank, and the cartridges for both are stocked separately.

Who makes them

Most people arrive knowing one name and leave having compared several. Zip Water build the broadest range in this collection, and their HydroTap systems are the ones that scale up to chilled and sparkling. Pronteau, Triflow Concepts, INTU and Grohe each take their own approach. Tank capacity, filtration and finish tell you more about which suits you than the badge on the front does.

For everything else the range covers, including the conventional shapes, start from kitchen taps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it worth having a boiling water tap?

For households that boil the kettle several times a day, the answer is usually yes within a fortnight. You get boiling water the moment you want it, the worktop back, and no waiting. The honest counterweight is the outlay and the tank under the sink, so it suits a kitchen being fitted or refitted more than a straight swap.

Do boiling water taps work?

They do, and they have been in British kitchens long enough for the technology to have settled down. A tank under the sink holds water at temperature and the tap draws from it on demand, so what arrives is genuinely boiling rather than merely very hot. The tank reheats in the background and you rarely catch it out.

What is the best alternative to a Quooker?

Quooker are the name most people know, and there are several other manufacturers making comparable taps. Zip Water build the widest range here, including HydroTap systems that add chilled and sparkling. Pronteau, Triflow Concepts and Grohe each offer their own take. Judging them on tank size, filtration and finish is more useful than judging them on the badge.

Are boiling water taps safe with children around?

They are designed on that assumption. Every boiling tap uses a deliberate safety action rather than a single lever, typically a push-and-turn or a locking button, so boiling water cannot be released by a knock or a curious hand. Many also insulate the spout so the outside stays cool to the touch.

What is the difference between a 3-in-1 and a 4-in-1?

A 3-in-1 delivers hot, cold and boiling water from one fitting. A 4-in-1 adds filtered cold water as well, so the same tap covers drinking water and the kettle's job. Some systems go further still with chilled and sparkling water on the same spout. Both shapes are well represented in this range.

How much space does the tank need under the sink?

Enough that it is worth measuring before you commit. The tank is the bulkiest part of the system and it has to share the cupboard with your waste trap and any filter housing. Compact tanks exist for tighter cupboards, and the dimensions are stated on each product page so you can check against what you have.

Do boiling water taps use a lot of electricity?

Less than most people expect. The tank keeps a small volume of water hot rather than heating a full kettle from cold each time, and modern units insulate well and drop into a standby mode when the kitchen is quiet. Households replacing several kettle boils a day often find it broadly evens out.
