Brass bodies and five-year guarantees

The taps in this range are brass-bodied rather than pressed from lighter alloy, and that single fact explains most of what people notice. Brass carries weight in the hand, holds a bonded finish properly, and does not develop the play in a lever that gives a cheap tap away after a couple of years. Most of the range carries a five-year manufacturer guarantee behind it.

Concetto and Essence are the ranges that come up most, both clean single-lever mixers, both available with a pull-out spray head that docks back into the spout. At the other end of the range sits a Duo tap combining boiling water with ordinary hot and cold, for kitchens that want the kettle gone without changing manufacturer.

The sinks are not an afterthought

It surprises people that GROHE make sinks at all, and more that they are good. The sink range here is mostly stainless steel with a handful of composite granite bowls, and every one of them carries the five-year guarantee.

Two details are worth knowing. The K700 series bowls are made to fit either undermount or inset, so the decision waits until the worktop is chosen rather than being fixed at checkout. And several carry sound-deadening insulation on the underside, which turns the tinny ring of a running tap on thin steel into something much quieter. One specification is worth settling before any of this. Every tap has a minimum water pressure it needs to work properly, stated on its product page, and a gravity-fed system with a tank in the loft will not drive a tap designed for mains pressure.
