Silestone Integrity Due L & Nobili Heron Semi Pro in Chrome and Matt Black Kitchen Tap Pull Out Collection

Pull-Out Kitchen Taps

The best thing about a pull-out tap is that you stop bringing the job to the water. The head lifts out of the spout on a hose and goes wherever it is needed, into the corners of the bowl, over a roasting tin that will not sit flat, into a bucket standing on the floor.

Why the reach matters

A fixed spout puts water in one place and asks everything else to arrange itself around that. Most of what makes washing up tedious comes from that single constraint: the baking sheet held at an angle, the stockpot filled in stages, the sink itself rinsed with a cupped hand. Pull the head out and the constraint disappears.

Jim D. described it better than a product page can: "It is a joy to use, people are actually looking for things to wash up. The spray mode is great, you can use it without pulling out the pull-out, so to speak, and the pull-out itself works perfectly, very smooth."

The mechanism is worth understanding, because it separates good taps from cheap ones. A counterweight under the sink pulls the hose back and seats the head in the spout, and the better designs add a magnetic dock so it returns to exactly the same position every time. A head that needs pushing home by hand, or that sags out of the spout after a year, is the tell of a weaker mechanism.

Spray, stream and shape

Most of these taps give you two ways for the water to arrive, a normal stream for filling and an aerated spray for rinsing, switched with a button on the head. That is a separate thing from the pull-out itself, and it is why some taps offer a spray mode without any hose at all. The pull-out sprays here are the taps where that spray head is the centrepiece of the design.

Spout shape divides the range. A tall gooseneck lets the head come straight down into a deep bowl and clears a full kettle underneath. A lower C-spout draws forward instead, which gives a longer horizontal reach across a double bowl or out to a draining board.

Modern, traditional, and every finish

Modern bodies make up most of this collection, in clean single-lever shapes. There are traditional pull-outs too, where the hose hides inside a period body with crosshead handles, which is a genuinely useful combination for anyone who has been choosing between looks and practicality. Finishes run the full range, from chrome through black to warmer metals.

Zip's HydroTap pull-out models add the same reach to a boiling and filtered system. For everything else, the full kitchen taps range sets the options side by side.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are pull-out kitchen taps worth it?

If you wash big things, fill buckets or rinse the sink down after cooking, they change the job entirely. Instead of manoeuvring an awkward pan under a fixed spout, you bring the water to the pan. Households that fit one tend to describe it as the feature they would least want to give up.

What is the difference between a pull-out and a pull-down tap?

Mostly the shape of the spout and how far the head travels. A pull-out draws forward and out on a hose, which suits a lower spout and gives a longer reach across a double bowl. A pull-down sits on a tall gooseneck and comes straight down into the bowl. Both use the same retracting mechanism.

Do I need a pull-out tap if I have a dishwasher?

Many people find they want one more, not less. A dishwasher takes the everyday plates, which leaves the sink for exactly the awkward items a fixed spout handles worst, meaning roasting tins, baking sheets, wooden boards and the sink itself. Rinsing before loading is easier with a spray head too.

Does the hose retract on its own?

On a well-made tap, yes. A counterweight on the hose under the sink pulls the head back into the spout and seats it neatly, and the better designs use a magnetic dock so it clicks home in the same position every time. A hose that has to be pushed back by hand is a sign of a cheaper mechanism.

Can you get a traditional pull-out tap?

You can, and there are several in this range. A traditional body with crosshead or lever handles and a concealed pull-out spray gives you period looks without giving up the practicality. It is one of the more satisfying combinations if a period kitchen has been making you compromise.

Is a spray function the same as a pull-out?

Not quite. Many pull-out taps offer two flow modes at the head, a normal stream and an aerated spray, switched with a button. Some fixed taps offer a spray mode without any pull-out at all. The pull-out is about reach; the spray is about how the water arrives once it gets there.

Will a pull-out tap fit my sink?

Nearly always, since almost all of them are monobloc taps fitting a single standard tap hole, the same as a conventional mixer. What varies is the space needed behind and beneath for the hose and counterweight to travel, which is stated on the product page and worth a glance if your cupboard is crowded.
