Steel Kitchen Taps

Stainless steel kitchen taps come in two honest builds. Most of the range is solid steel, so the material you see is the material the whole way through, while a smaller group of steel-look finishes use a PVD coating over another metal instead, chosen for the coating's own scratch resistance rather than as a stand-in for solid steel. Either way you land on stainless steel kitchen taps, brushed to a soft grain or left with a brighter working shine, so the choice comes down to construction as much as texture.

Solid steel or PVD-coated

The two builds serve different priorities, and neither is the lesser pick. Solid stainless steel is one grade of metal from the surface to the core, so the material never changes character no matter how long the tap has been in daily use. A PVD-coated finish takes a different route: the coating is engineered for scratch resistance in its own right, a genuine strength rather than a shortcut, and it's what gives some of the matte steel-look taps in this range their name. Choose solid steel if you want the material itself to be the whole story, and a PVD-coated finish if scratch resistance is what you're shopping for first.

Brushed steel

Brushed steel is the version most people picture when they say stainless steel kitchen taps, and it's the texture you'll find worn by both solid steel and PVD-coated finishes alike. The surface carries a fine, directional texture that scatters light rather than bouncing it back, so fingerprints and everyday water marks sit far less visibly than they would on a polished finish, closer in that respect to brushed chrome than to polished. Living with it day to day means less wiping, not none, since a working kitchen still puts a tap through its paces, but the grain does a lot of the disguising work on its own.

Which kitchens suit stainless steel

Stainless steel earns its place on practical grounds as much as looks. Hospitals fit stainless steel fixtures for the same reason a kitchen might choose this finish: the material resists the kind of build-up that can form on a porous surface, which makes it a genuinely hygienic choice for a room where food gets prepared. Set against light oak or warm stone it can look a little clinical, but paired with the appliances most modern kitchens already run in steel, it settles into the scheme rather than fighting it.

Living with stainless steel

Cleaning a steel tap is mostly about matching the direction of the grain rather than avoiding anything in particular. Warm water and a soft cloth lift daily marks without any real risk of damaging the finish, whether that finish is solid steel or a PVD coating built to shrug off exactly this kind of everyday wipe, and wiping along the brushed lines rather than across them keeps the texture looking even. Limescale shows up here as it would on any bright metal, so a quick dry after washing up keeps hard water marks from building, and diluted white vinegar on a cloth lifts anything that has already set.

It is worth setting stainless steel against chrome before you decide, since the two are the classic bright-metal comparison for a kitchen tap, and if you are choosing a sink at the same time, stainless steel is one of the safer pairings you can make. For the full picture across every finish, the kitchen taps range covers all of them side by side.
